Menu Planning – Staying Organized

Making a menu for your dinners not only helps you stay organized it helps you save money.

I try to sit down twice a month to plan out my dinners and grocery lists.
By doing this it helps you stay organized and not wondering what you’re gonna make for dinner each night especially when your pressed for time.
Keep it in a notebook so that you can also look back for ideas of what to make especially the things you tried that’s new and enjoyed.  Give a rating next to new things, if it didn’t go over well cross it out.  I try to try something new once a week to help broaden my dinner menus plus it also helps you in your cooking skills.
So plan out your weekly menu. Leave a day for leftovers and a day for a night out.  When you have a menu for 2 weeks make up a grocery list of items you need. You will most likely have a fresh produce list that you might have to get each week a long with milk, bread and whatever things you go through quickly, but some produce will last longer than others so plan accordingly for your days and you might not have to go again until second week.
Other than that you can buy everything you need for your menus and won’t end up buying extra stuff that sounds good that you never get around to making or it spoils before you make it. So 2 big shops a month isn’t bad. You will also not spend extra $ when your going shopping hungry and buying all kinds of stuff with good intentions. Also make sure you look through your pantry see what you already have on hand or that’s getting close to expiration and plan meals based on that. Another nice thing about having a menu planned is that if you don’t feel like what is planned for let’s say Monday you can switch days around because you already have the necessities. Another important factor is a well stocked pantry it is a great helper.
Some necessities to always have in your pantry are:
Tomato sauce
Cans Stewed or diced tomatoes
Chicken broth Powder
Beef broth powder
Refried beans
Rice
Pasta of a few kinds
Taco shells
Soy sauce
Large assortment of spices
Coconut milk
Oatmeal
Quinoa
Assortment of beans – can be canned
Worcestershire sauce
 Vinegar, balsamic, red wine, white
bread crumbs
Cornstarch
Cornmeal
Flour
Olive oil
Canola oil
Sesame oil
Salt
Pepper
When I start getting low I just remember to write it on my grocery list then I always have what I need when I need it.
Some of my menus might look like this :
Mon-stuffed flank steak
Teus- fontina chicken with mushroom sauce
Weds-lamb curry
Thurs- left overs
Fri-eat out
Sat-ceviche tostadas
Sun-lasagna
Grocery list
Fontina cheese
Flank steak
Spinach
Mushrooms
Fish
Bell peppers
Avocados
Mozzarella
Cilantro
Romaine
I hope this helps you it has helped me greatly and I have been doing it since I got married.  It has been a valuable time and money saver.

Easter Decorations

I made a few things for Easter to help decorate my house . They turned out really cute. I’ve seen some on blogs and some on Pinterest. I had a few decorations but needed some new ones so I googled Easter Wreaths and found a ton of really cute ones. Wow are there some crafty talented people out there. I found a good tutorial for a Ribbon Wreath and Topiary on debbiedoescreations.com. The great part is you can do them for fairly inexpensive. You can buy most of the stuff at the dollar store.  Here’s a few pictures of what I did.

This was easy and really cheap because I had leftover ribbon from my wreath. It only took me about 45 minutes.

I love candy displays and they fit in easily along a garland or table landscape. So hilarious that I found gummy carrots to go with my bunny mallows. There’s a lot of cute Easter candy out there that you can use. Those eggs are actually wooden eggs that I painted and I found the cute chicken wire wrapped glass bowl at Ross for $4.00. Love that place to find different things you can use to decorate and for a great price.

I also made a Peep topiary. My kids love Peeps! Me included. I started using a toothpick to attach these to the styrofoam ball but a lot were falling off after I finished so I had to hot glue some. I would go that route unless you want them to be a display for a dessert table and to be eaten.

The next morning they were drier and therefore shrunk a bit which then makes spaces show in between. Even so its so cute. I used the tutorial by thehungrymouse.com but that is the toothpick way and I would recommend hot gluing.

I’d have to say these are the cutest craft and so simple. I found this on thecsiproject.com by a guest blogger called JC’s Loft, but when I tried to find her blog or site it kept saying not found. Sad because i’m sure she has some great ideas after seeing this one. Aren’t they Eggcellent?! Sorry Ha!

My last picture is of some decorations I already had I just added the subway art. I love Subway Art for Holidays so cute and you can usually find quite a bit out there that’s free.:0)

This subway art was from eighteen25.blogspot.com. You can google Easter Subway art and take your pick of many.

Thanks to all these talented people I have a whole bunch of new Easter decor. Check out their blogs or websites for more holiday crafts.

HELLO

My name is Shauna and I am lucky enough to be a stay at home mom with 5 kids and a loving husband. I’m a native of Arizona and absolutely love it here.(Yes I have been other places cause we love to travel as well.) I graduated from Westwood High school then graduated from ASU with a short year at Utah Valley College along the way.
I have been cooking and baking since I was young. My mom taught me initially and then I took off with it from there. I helped teach cooking classes in Mesa years ago and had a little catering and Sugar cookie business as well. I love to Cook and Bake! Plain and simple it is therapy for me. I get to create something and feed it to the ones I love and share it with others too.
